Although South Korea’s daily confirmed cases of COVID-19 are rapidly increasing, the fatality rate is low, which is attributed to the world’s highest level of vaccination, CNN reported recently.
CNN analyzed that the high number of confirmed cases in South Korea is due to the high test rate.
CNN focused on the quarantine policies of Asian countries, including South Korea, highlighting the recent surge in the number of corona confirmed cases in Asia.
The number of confirmed cases is rapidly increasing as Asian countries significantly ease regulations related to COVID-19.
Although the number of deaths increased as the number of confirmed cases surged, South Korea still maintains the lowest death rate in the world. This is because Korea has the highest vaccination rate in the world.
In Korea, 96% of adults received more than one vaccination. In particular, regarding 63% of the total population received the third dose. In the United States, only 29%.
South Korea has focused on boosting vaccinations for the elderly who are most vulnerable to serious illness and death from the virus. Such efforts have led to the lowest fatality rate in the world.
The fatality rate in Korea is 0.13%, which is significantly lower than that of the United Kingdom (0.18%), the United States (1.2%) and France (0.59%).
New Zealand is similar to Korea. New Zealand was one of the countries with the most reported cases of COVID-19 last week, but the number of deaths was outside the top 20 in the world.
The problem is Hong Kong. Hong Kong, with a population of 7.4 million, has reported more than 7,300 COVID-19 deaths since the end of December. The city’s mortality rate is the highest in Asia.
In Hong Kong, 84.5% of people aged 12 and over received two doses, and only 60% of people aged 70 and over received two doses, CNN reported.
