The American chain CNN fired one of its best-known presenters, Don Lemon, who had been working in the media for 17 years.
After serving as co-anchor of the morning show ‘CNN This Morning’ in recent months, the journalist found himself at the focus of a scandal last February over his comments about presidential candidate Nikki Haley, which were described as sexist.
Referring to a proposal by the Republican that older politicians undergo a check to verify their competence, Lemon said that Haley, 51, is not “in her prime”. He further stated that the peak for a woman is “after 20, 30 or probably 40 years«.
This Monday, the journalist stated that he learned of his dismissal in the morning through his agent, which left him “stunned” at the lack of “decency” on the part of management, by not notifying him directly.
CNN denied that version of events, saying that he was “offered the opportunity to meet with management, but opted to post a statement on Twitter«.
The chain did not provide explanations for Lemon’s dismissal, limiting itself to thanking him for his work and wishing him success in his future projects.
On the same Monday it was announced that another popular American presenter, Tucker Carlson, left the Fox News channel.
