West Indies head coach Phil Simmons expressed anger and helplessness at top players not playing for the country. He expressed his frustration at not being able to field a good team with the Twenty20 World Cup around the corner. He alleged that senior players are not interested in being a part of the team.
“The Twenty20 World Cup is approaching. You can’t beg players to play for West Indies. Many are running following money. Clubs in other countries are bigger than the national team for them. Twenty20 World Cup cannot be played with the existing team. Everyone wants to play for West Indies. I don’t care if the stars see other franchises as bigger than the country. If you want to represent the West Indies, I think you make yourself available. It hurts,” Simmons said.
Although the team is rich in stars, players like Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Oshane Thomas and Evin Lewis are all absent from the team. Sheldon Cottrell, Fabian Allen and Roston Chase are injured. Disappointed in this, the coach came out with an advertisement response.
