A first in the ‘Verse! It is at the end of the eleventh Citizen Con, which took place last weekend, that we learned the news. Indeed, through the new presentation video of Squadron 42, a short passage, but which will not have escaped the expert eye of our readers, reveals in a subtle way the collaboration of Cloud Imperium Games with Microsoft, and in particular its PowerPoint product, famous for its slideshows. We can admire a succession of images representing the crossing of a hangar in space, which will have the most beautiful effect on COGIP’s third quarter 2023 results.

But this video is also an opportunity for Chris Roberts to announce that all the “planned features” have been developed. All that remains is the finishing, described by one of the team members, as the part which consists to make the game fun. Oh. Oops. That’s the tile. Naively, we imagined that it was something planned a little in advance, but we must believe that we were mistaken… In any case, we’re not going to lie to you, the transparency you menu of the player is beautiful, just like waves on the waterwhich, unsurprisingly, benefit from major technical advances developed for coffee. On the other hand, we are clearly not convinced by the gravity gun, which will ask players to think. We have the impression that they are missing the target a bit with this gameplay mechanic. But they can’t get it right the first time, after all. They can still remove things.

We wouldn’t be NoFrag if we didn’t focus on the FPS part. Obviously, this video on Squadron 42 shows us some phases on foot, rifle in hand. And we can only bow to the determination of the development team, which brilliantly imposes its artistic vision, imitating to perfection characteristic movements films shot in cinematography and its sixteen frames per second. To get around the impossibility of aiming correctly, they offer us really clever game design tools, like a wall-hack. Another game mechanic also seems very interesting in the first person: turn the valves. Probably their definition of what fun is.

Vroom vroom!

After a speech on the story and the characters, we are presented with different environments, which show that the team has good elements, because the artistic direction is failing still not bad. Hopefully we’ll actually be able to see this in motion in-game, and not just in cutscenes. Our good Chris ends the video by talking about the work they still need to do on optimization and stability, before they can announce a release date. Oh, it’s probably a trifle, five or six years at most…

Finally, we cannot ignore Star Citizenwhich also benefited from several detailed presentations on the various improvements and new features planned for soon™, including the FPS partor crafting ships. If you want the full list of upcoming stuff, we don’t really know where it is, but there will certainly be a good soul to share it with you in the comments.
