The Dutch clothing brand Scotch & Soda has filed for bankruptcy for its activities in our country. The curator is looking for a new owner. For the time being, the 32 Dutch stores will remain open.
The problems with the Dutch brand arose in the corona time, the company writes in a press release. Then shops had to close for a longer period of time due to the corona measures. That time, combined with rising energy prices and skyrocketing inflation, have caused “serious cash flow problems,” according to Scotch & Soda.
A curator will be looking for a candidate to take over the Dutch activities in the near future. During that search, the 32 branches in our country will remain open. In the Netherlands regarding eight hundred people work for Scotch & Soda.
“It is a real Dutch brand with a creative heart, which is active worldwide. That is special,” says curator Jasper Berkenbosch to FD. “The bankruptcy is really a bitter pill to swallow.”
The bankruptcy only applies to the Dutch part. The activities abroad, where Scotch & Soda has more than two hundred stores, are not in danger. These stores can be found in France, England and Italy, but also in the United States and China.
