Closure of the Wasmuël recyparc for incivility: police rounds and a security guard will ensure security upon reopening

The Wasmuël recyparc (Quaregnon) will reopen its doors on Tuesday following having remained closed for the past few days. It was the behavior of users of the recyparc that had forced the management of the intermunicipal Hygea to take the decision to close the site temporarily.

This is not the first time that the Wasmuël recyparc has encountered difficulties with some of its users. These are people, a minority explains the management, who do not respect the rules of the recyparc, in particular the instructions relating to sorting. “For a very small fraction, but which weighs heavily in the balance, our employees are confronted with emphatic remarks, even quite strong, even sometimes with violence”, explained to RTBF Jacques De Moortel, Director of the Hygea intermunicipal company. “We have experienced an upsurge in incivility, both in frequency and severity, which is undermining our staff”, added Jacque De Moortel.

“This is not a phenomenon only in the municipality of Quaregnon and in Wasmuël more precisely”reacts Damien Jenart, the mayor of Quaregnon. “These are people who arrive with the trunk full and who say to themselves that they are throwing everything into a container. But no, the staff is there to sort out the bulky items and say that it goes in a container or in another. This is not necessarily understood by visitors”, noted Damien Jenart at the microphone of RTBF.
