Tahiti on November 2, 2023. On the occasion of the closing event of Pink October held at Paofai Park last Saturday, the president of the League Against Cancer – Committee of Polynesia, Natasha Helme, received hands of the visual artist Hina Nui a check for 30,000 francs, corresponding to a third of the sales of her series of inks entitled “INKredibles Women” dedicated to people suffering from cancer.
As the closing concert was taking place, Natacha Helme was kind enough to take a short look at this month of October dedicated to the prevention of breast cancer, the first cancer that affects women in Polynesia. “This year, the results are positive. The initiatives were made spontaneously. We have also seen that many municipalities have mobilized to the point of changing their logo and dressing it in the colors of Pink October. It is certain that the more we screen, the more women we will find with breast cancer, but screening is still very insufficient, especially early detection. Regarding this donation, I thank Hina Nui as well as the many artists who were willing to participate in our approach, because these donations are intended mainly for our sick people, but also for our healthy population. We are especially focused on prevention and information, and everything we collect allows us to reach out to the population so that everyone has information regarding the disease and knows how to prevent it.”
