Buffalo farm Nguyen Quang Thong (53 years old, residing in Huong Vinh commune, Huong Khe district, Ha Tinh province) is nearly 4 hectares wide. With a scale of 250 buffalo meat and breeding sows, this is considered the largest buffalo farm in Ha Tinh.The farm was put into investment and breeding in August 2020 with 100 fattening buffalo breeds from Thailand, 100 VND buffalo breed domestic and 50 breeding sows.The barn system is well-invested, meeting the technical requirements in buffalo raising. Farm owner raise buffalo said that buffalo raising is a new direction, requiring huge investment capital, so it is necessary to learn regarding breeding sources, apply science and technology in disease care and prevention.“Each breed of buffalo when purchased has a weight of regarding 400kg. When returning to the farm, it will be fattened for 4-5 months to reach a weight of 600-650kg and will be sold,” said Mr. Nguyen Quang Thong.Particularly, breeding sows will be cared for appropriately, meeting breeding and herd development standards.Breed buffaloes from Thailand are tagged with yellow in the ears.The owner of the buffalo farm said that he spent nearly 20 billion VND to invest in building barns and buying breeding animals and food. According to calculations, if it is favorable, following each batch of buffaloes for sale, the farm owner will collect billions of dollars. However, more than 2 years of investment, due to the prolonged epidemic, the market declined, causing the price of buffalo meat to plummet.“Each kilogram of buffalo meat costs 100,000 VND, but now it is only regarding 65,000 VND. The market is difficult while the price of feed and breed is high, so the farm is making up for losses. However, in the long term, the buffalo farming model is still the direction. go new, bring high economy”, Mr. Thong explained.In addition to the large barn area, the farm owner also installed a full feed trough, water tank and rock salt for the buffalo.The breeding buffalo herd gave new litters, helping to increase the number of herds.In addition to 2 hectares of grass and corn on the farm, Mr. Thong also buys agricultural products such as corn, cassava, rice… for people in the area to serve the needs of livestock.Maize, grass and agricultural products following being chopped will be silage with rice bran for regarding 10 days before feeding to buffalo to ensure technical requirements.Mr. Thong’s farm also creates jobs for nearly 10 local workers, with an income of 5-7 million VND/month per person. Leaders of Huong Khe District People’s Committee said that Mr. Nguyen Quang Thong’s buffalo farm model is the largest and typical model in Ha Tinh province today.“The farm owner has invested a large amount of capital to invest, but in the past two years, due to many difficulties in diseases and markets, the price of buffalo meat has decreased while the price of feed and breed is quite high. However, if guaranteed, If the price is stable and the market is found, this model will be a good development trend. In the coming time, the district will coordinate to find the market and appropriate policies to further develop the model.” leaders of Huong Khe District People’s Committee expressed.
