Close to 4 thousand eucalyptus trees will be planted on both sides of the Cuito-Chingar road section (National Road 250), by the Forestry Development Institute (IDF), as part of forest replenishment.

The launch event took place yesterday in Embala Ngombe, on the aforementioned section, with the planting of a thousand eucalyptus trees, as part of the celebrations of World Tree and Forest Day, which takes place this Thursday.

On the occasion, the head of department at the Forestry Development Institute in Bié, Elvira Tatiana Soares, highlighted that the launch of the plantation of this species and others aims to replenish forest resources, which have suffered annual devastation of around 3 thousand cubic meters.

Forest resources, according to the person responsible, are very important, as they help to slow down climate change, as well as regulate the climate.

The province of Bié has a forest cover of 3 million, 936 thousand and 915 hectares, of which 91 thousand hectares are considered productive.

Elvira Tatiana Soares defended, on the other hand, the need to intensify community awareness regarding the importance of preserving trees and forests.

Technicians from the IDF, those responsible for the “Jucarente” Youth Association, the Association of Friends of the Environment and the population surrounding the administrative center of Cuquema also participated in the activity.
