Eiffel Tower evacuated hours before the 2024 Paris Olympics. French authorities have evacuated the iconic monument of the French capital after a man was spotted climbing the tower. The shirtless man was spotted by tourists and passers-by as he climbed the 330-meter-high tower in the afternoon. Videos posted on social media show him in the part above the five-ring Olympic symbol that stands halfway up the Eiffel Tower.

The man, who reportedly has a British accent, was stopped shortly after by police. It is unclear where he began his ascent, but he was spotted right above the Olympic rings that adorned the second section of the monument. The incident comes on the final day of the Games. The closing ceremony is scheduled for 9 p.m. at the Stade de France, in the Saint-Denis district.
