Climbing to Uncharted Territory: The Unrivaled Benefits of Being the First to Reach the Summit

Seventh win in a row! Union Dietach is still the measure of all things in the Upper Austrian league after the 3-1 home win against Weißkirchen. “We have an incredibly good atmosphere in the team. Coupled with the quality, that is our current secret of success,” says coach Daniel Ruttensteiner.

His team was already among the top favorites at the start of the season – would promotion be desirable for the club at the end of the season? Ruttensteiner: “It’s not a must-goal for the club, but we want to win as many games as possible. If you end up at the top, you’ll be promoted.”

Next Friday there will be a duel with the first pursuer. Union Mondsee is also currently in impressive form: the 3-1 win against Micheldorf was their sixth win in a row. At the beginning of the season, the team from the Salzkammergut was still struggling. “We started the season as favorites for many clubs. We first had to accept this role and have learned the lesson,” says Mondsee coach Thomas Plasser.

Mondsee instead of catfish

The 38-year-old was about to leave a few weeks ago: regional league team FC Hertha Wels was interested in Plasser. “It was a recognition and would have been attractive. But it wasn’t the right time. We built something exciting with Mondsee during the transfer period, so it’s even nicer that we have an exciting season ahead of us.”

Which could possibly be crowned with promotion? “For me, Dietach remains the favorite, they were second in the previous season and held the team together. But of course we also have a good team. In Mondsee – and that’s my opinion too – the promotion issue is relatively clear: we’re playing a competition and If you win this, the consequence is that you will be promoted.”
