Developing its own collection of “Hike Notebooks”, the Gap Tallard Vallées Tourist Office is focusing this spring on “family climbing in the Ceüse massif”.

This “Family Climbing Notebook” presents very fun climbing activities for all ages and all levels. We find ourselves on a playground, made up of blocks (sometimes huge) of different sizes and shapes, in the forest of Céüse below the legendary cliff of the same name.

Two types of practice are offered: bouldering and “classic” climbing. The first consists of a course of 10 blocks giving rise to 22 “challenges” particularly suitable for children from 3 to 12 years old. These blocks are passable without equipment, except sneakers close to the foot (ideally climbing shoes) and optional, a crash pad (landing mat). A little tougher, the “24-block course” is a superb challenge for experienced practitioners. Concerning the “classic” climbing with rope, it takes place on the “school rocks”. Access is on routes of all difficulties for 3-year-old children (3+ routes) as well as for experts (7c+ routes). This practice requires complete equipment (shoes, helmet, harness, rope, quickdraws, belay system). 78 routes are spread over the 6 “school rocks”. Rope climbing, at an affordable level for beginners, can also be practiced on the famous Céüse cliff: 36 routes (from 4a to 7c) represent the easy routes on the sector of the west face, called “Lumineuse”.

The “Family Climbing Notebook” is on sale at the Tourist Office reception desks in Gap and Tallard, for 2 euros. The digital version is free, downloadable from the Gap Tallard Vallées Tourist Office website. You can find all the information on the route, access, level and advice. The document is supplemented with information on the topics of climbing and nature to arouse the interest and curiosity of children. In order to put thefocus on safety, the “Petzl” company specializing in the manufacture of mountain and safety equipment and partner of the Tourist Office, presents the “Partner check” in the first pages of the guide. This is a mutual verification protocol between climber and belayer before each start of length.

To reach the Ceüse site, from the village of Sigoyer, 1.5 km before the Col des Guérins, in a bend, turn right towards Les Bonnets. The first paved road turns into a forest track to the parking lot. The school boulders and rocks site for family climbing is also an ideal place for a relaxing day in the heart of nature: picnic tables, large shaded areas, perfect for hide-and-seek games and other games for explorers of the drink. A small loop of 2 hours of walking on the “Pépinière de Sigot” trail allows you to discover the forest, human and historical heritage of the sitestarting with the Grotte des Maquisards.
