St. Pölten (OTS) – Exceptionally good ideas and practical examples of how agriculture can become even more sustainable are up for grabs in this year’s audience favorite of the “Land und People” favorite 2023. Six farms or rural initiatives will be presented in the next programs, which focus on climate protection, energy awareness, Animal and environmental protection do far more than they have to. At the start, two candidates are particularly concerned with the climate: a farmer from Upper Austria uses a technically new process to obtain high-quality protein from alfalfa and clover. This replaces soy as feed and soy imports from overseas can be reduced. A farmer in Burgenland shows how climate protection, sustainability and biodiversity begin in her own cultivation and garden, for example with the cultivation of a wide variety of plants and old vegetables.
Further topics from “Land and People” on October 14th:
*Control of domestic eggs
A report from Burgenland shows what guidelines and controls there are for local fresh eggs. Around 7.5 million laying hens are kept in Austria, a little more than half of them in free-range farming, 30 percent in free-range farming and 13 percent in organic farms.
*Valuable resources
From nose to tail, everything from the animal is used at the Jörglbauer near Frantschach in Carinthia. For example, soap is made from beef fat, jewelry is made from horns and claws, and “donkey gold” provides valuable garden manure.
*All fruit juice
What makes a healthy fruit juice, what needs to be taken into account when juicing – we find out in the Sulzer family’s fruit business in Eschenau in Lower Austria. Fruit owners can also bring their own fruit there, for example from the garden, to make juice.
