Von Humboldt wrote 23 volumes of observation, which he accompanied with engravings, paintings and drawings. Before anyone else, the scientist formulates the hypothesis that climate change can be caused by human activity and he denounces the colonization and slavery he witnessed in South America.

On his return in 1807, he published a Essay on the geography of plants (1807), where his physical picture of life appears, still used today to study the evolution of plant families in relation to climate change. A year later, in 1808, he wrote nature paintingsa succession of scientific observations combining travelogue, poetry and scientific analysis.

Finally, it takes 20 years to write Cosmosa 5-volume essay in which he describes the interconnection of all natural phenomena within the Universe.
