Wednesday morning traffic in Vienna: activists from the “Last Generation” group blocked the intersection of Döblinger Gurtel and Glatzgasse, causing traffic delays.
Five activists from the “Last Generation” group lined up at the pedestrian crossing over the three-lane road and brought traffic to a standstill. The result was honking and insults, and a woman drove her vehicle very close to the demonstrators. The activists let a bus, a bus and some vehicles pass. “I have an appointment with the doctor,” a woman called from the car, “who will take responsibility if I don’t get well?”
The demonstrators then tried to calmly declare their peaceful resistance. There was no understanding among the drivers at this point.
The police moved to the belt with 20 emergency services, stormed the intersection and brought the five demonstrators onto the sidewalk. A loudly scolding motorcyclist stopped at the already cleared intersection and packed up the banners with the demand for the “last generation”. With the traffic blockades, they initially want to push through two demands: 100 km/h on the autobahn and no new drilling for oil and gas. According to the activists, two measures that might easily be implemented by politicians without any effort and would have an initial major impact.
The last generation posted the action on Twitter and explained the motives.
