Be careful if you are a driver and you are driving in Geneva on Friday or in the city of Zurich on Saturday. Climate activists from the organization Renovate blocked traffic in both city centers. Their goal being to “highlight the deceptive beauty of this time of year and remind people of the climate emergency,” they wrote in two press releases.

In Zurich, three supporters sat down on a street in the old town on Saturday around 4:15 p.m. and held up their Renovate banners. They then recalled the climate emergency: “We must act now to preserve our lives, our loved ones, our democratic values and our future,” said Laura, climate activist and researcher. Police officers quickly arrived on the scene. They then moved the activists and subjected them to control. Road traffic was able to return to normal shortly following.

A similar action took place on Friday, this time in Geneva. Five activists stuck their hands to the asphalt on the Quai du Mont-Blanc, around 5 p.m. Here once more, same objective: “The climate catastrophe does not stop for the holidays. I am afraid of no longer seeing the snow-capped mountains, I am afraid for my future and especially that of my nephew,” said Gregory Trolliet, member of the Socialist Party of Meyrin Cointrin and Renovate activist. The police arrived shortly followingwards. These two actions mark the start of a whole series planned before the Christmas period.
