Employees of the Property Control Committee (PCC) began to vacate premises in the Sberkass building of the State Bank at 78 Fontanka embankment, which tenants occupied illegally. This was reported on October 2 by the department’s press service.
Specialists from the committee and the institution subordinate to it opened the premises and removed users’ property and garbage from them. The rooms, cleared of the presence of strangers, were promised to be sealed, sealed and equipped with padlocks, the keys to which would be handed over to the housing agency of the Central District.
In part of the building with a total area of 6.5 thousand square meters. m located citizens and organizations. They set up workshops inside, studios for photography and music lessons, some converted the rooms for residential and storage purposes. All of them occupied these areas illegally, but some became victims of scammers by concluding agreements with persons who do not have any rights to the property, others simply settled inside without permission.
This was discovered during a joint inspection by the district administration and the KKI last week, as a result of which information about the scammers was transferred to law enforcement agencies. At the same time, all tenants were warned that they would have to move out voluntarily or, when the time came, forcibly.

Of the “living” and legal users, only the publishing house of the children’s book “Detgiz” is located inside. It occupies 905 sq. m under a free use agreement. The publishing house regularly suffers from leaks, lack of heating and attacks by hooligans who create chaos, steal documents and damage books.
The rest of the building is owned by the city and maintained by the Central Area Housing Agency. The monument needs emergency work and major repairs, but all this has not been carried out.
