Clear rejections before talks between the party leaders

On Tuesday afternoon, Chancellor Karl Nehammer (VP) and FP chairman Herbert Kickl will have the opportunity to speak in person for the first time since the election campaign confrontations. According to the order from Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen, the two should “reliably clarify what kind of cooperation would be conceivable”.

Even before the meeting, Nehammer confirmed that he would definitely keep his election promises. At the heart of this was the rejection of a coalition with an FPÖ under Kickl. Conversely, the leader of the Blue Party with the most votes also emphasized to Van der Bellen that FP participation in the government would be linked to his chancellorship.

On Thursday the round between Kickl and SP boss Andreas Babler will take place. Here, the SPÖ’s general coalition rejection of Blue limits the scope for maneuver. The three party leaders will then report to the Hofburg.
