MEXICO CITY.- This Friday, during her “morning of the people” press conference, the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardostated that it is “indispensable” for the US economy Treaty between Mexico, the United States and Canada (T-MEC), after the notice of the former US president (2017-2021) and Republican candidate Donald Trumpto renegotiate it if it returns to White House.
“We are going to agree. They are in a campaign, obviously there is also greater stridency in one sense or another, but they know and we know that the agreement is essential, within the framework of our sovereignty,” declared Sheinbaum Pardo.

The Mexican leader reacted to a speech by Trump in Michigan, where he expressed on Thursday that he would “formally notify Mexico and Canada” of his “intention to invoke the six-year renegotiation provisions of the T-MEC” that he negotiated during his mandate and It came into effect in 2020.
But Sheinbaum dismissed the repercussions of his statements by stating that “the United States already depends a lot on Mexico,” which registers a “historical maximum” of exports to that country.

“We are the main exporter (to the United States) and we also have a very important relationship between the economies, our objective is also for this to advance towards Central America and South America to be able to make the entire continent even more strong,” he explained.
The president argued that Trump “referred in particular to products that come in particular from China that are not reported and that, even, in the current T-MEC there are limitations.”
And he reiterated that there will be agreements with whoever wins the United States elections on November 5, whether it is Trump or the vice president and Democratic candidate, Kamala Harris.
“So whoever wins, be it President Trump or Vice President Kamala, we are going to agree. “Our economies have a lot of integration,” he said.
