MEXICO.- The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaumexpressed this Thursday that he is analyzing promoting from the Government the classification of the crime of transfemicidethat is, the murders of trans women for reasons of hate.

Questioned about the issue in her morning conference, the president indicated that she will study whether to do something similar to the reform proposals she presented on October 3, which include the obligation to investigate all murders of women with a gender perspectivesomething that corresponds to the criminal codes of the states.

“In general, it is also state (transfeminicide) because It is a crime of common law and is legislated in local codes. But we are going to see how the federation can also guide it,” he explained at the National Palace.

Claudia Sheinbaum dedicated her first package of reforms, sent to Congress on October 3, to establish in the Constitution the right to a “life free of violence” already force state prosecutors investigate the murders of women with a gender perspective.

“What we want is that The violent death of a woman is always classified as feminicide and is investigated as such. If the investigation shows that it was another reason, then the feminicide is discarded, but the objective is for it to be classified (initially) as a feminicide so that it can be investigated as such,” he now reiterated.

The investigations of the murders correspond to the local prosecutor’s offices, which usually classify the events as “homicides” of women. The president promised that, if it is necessary to send more reforms to correct the situation in the states, she will do so.

Hate crimes in Mexico

Mexico faces a wave of hate crimes this year with at least 50 murders of trans womenaccording to the National Trans Non-Binarie Assembly and the Transcontingenta collective, while last year the Letra S organization reported 43.

Until now, only Nayarit and Mexico City They include this crime in their local criminal codes since this year.

Furthermore, the country is experiencing a crisis of sexist violence, with 10 women murdered a dayaccording to official figures.
