MEXICO CITY (EFE).— The outgoing president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obradorsaid goodbye yesterday Saturday to his transition tour with the president-elect, Claudia Sheinbaum, with the inauguration of the naval sector in Boca de Chila, in the state of Nayarit, without the speech of his successor, who will take office on October 1.

Under the rain, López Obrador led a solemn ceremony to flag the Navy sector, whose secretary José Rafael Ojeda Durán thanked and praised him as an “exemplary and incorruptible citizen.”

In a brief speech, the outgoing president mentioned his support for Claudia Sheinbaum, who highlighted her historic electoral victory and the symbol of being the first woman president, and celebrated the appointment of the next Secretary of the Navy, Raymundo Pedro Morales Ángeles, with which he stated “the future of our people” and country is guaranteed.

However, unlike the rest of the events of the joint tour to supervise priority projects that began a week after the June 2 elections, on this occasion, Claudia Sheinbaum limited herself to listening to López Obrador and Ojeda, and observing the flag act of the naval sector headed by the president.

At the close of the tour, the president handed over to the Navy the work in the municipality of Compostela for “surveillance and security for the entire coastal area of the state of Nayarit, which has a great future, especially with tourism development.”

For his part, the Secretary of the Navy indicated that the area includes a marine infantry battalion, a search and rescue and maritime surveillance station, a housing unit, a clinic, a hostel and port work.

“This sector, in addition to allowing the maintenance of the rule of law in the area, contributes to tourism development,” Ojeda highlighted in a speech interrupted by the rain.

In the morning, López Obrador and his successor inaugurated the Alejandro Gascón Mercado irrigation district in Nayarit.
