Almost 4,000 visitors, including many celebrities from politics and business, did not want to miss Elīna Garanča and her musical guests, despite the rain and strong wind.

Elīna Garanča celebrated Göttweig’s 15th anniversary with premieres and retrospectives, which brought a re-listening of particularly acclaimed arias and duets from concert history. Karel Mark Chichon, who acted as conductor and musical director, had also put together a medley for the special occasion. Under the title “Around the World” he chose popular songs from all over the world, including “My Way” or Austrian favorites like “My lips, they kiss so hot” from Giuditta, all sung by Garanča.

“Göttweig is my place of power”

“15 years of Göttweig – that’s unbelievable! The energy that comes towards me when I’m standing on this open-air stage simply makes us artists happy. Göttweig is my place of power, my second home,” said a moved Elīna Garanča after the concert .

The weather gods didn’t really play along in the anniversary year. Although the heavy rain subsided shortly before the start of the concert, showers and strong winds demanded a lot from the thousands of visitors.

Atmospheric anniversary with musical guests

In the spirit of promoting young classical music, a prelude in the retreat house of Göttweig Abbey kicked off the concert evening: Nadja Kaiserseder and Leonie Paul, finalists in this year’s “ZukunftsStimmen” initiative, gave a talent test, accompanied by pianist Christian Koch. Garanča brought this year’s winner of their youth initiative “ZukunftsStimmen” to the stage, bass Felix Pacher from Vienna. The Japanese soprano Eri Nakamura, who took over for Eleonora Buratto, who was ill, and the South Korean tenor SeokJong Baek sang solo arias, a duet from Puccini’s Madame Butterfly and the final medley with Elīna Garanča.

Eine eigene “Raiffeisen-Bank” für Elina Garanca

On behalf of the Raiffeisen NÖ-Wien team, Erwin Hameseder, chairman of Raiffeisen Holding NÖ-Wien and partner of the concert, presented an anniversary present on stage – a bench specially designed for Garanča with a future permanent location in the atmospheric garden of Göttweig Abbey: “The unique concert evenings at Göttweig Abbey have become a success story and are associated with one name in particular: world star Elina Garanca, who has been shaping ‘Classic under the Stars’ with her artistic performances for 15 years, and as a token of gratitude and

Appreciation of Raiffeisen NÖ-Vienna receives its own ‘Raiffeisen Bank’. The seating will have a worthy place on Göttweig and should serve Elina Garanca as a place of strength and a place to linger!” says Hameseder.
