In response to the cold wave affecting the Maule Region, authorities have decided to suspend classes this Thursday, July 11 and Friday, July 12 in six municipalities of the region. This measure seeks to protect students from the low temperatures expected in the coming days.
The Chilean Meteorological Directorate (DMC) issued a warning of normal to moderate frost for the areas of the Coastal Cordillera and the valley of the O’Higgins and Maule regions. This warning will be in effect from early Thursday morning until Friday morning, warning of the possibility of frost formation due to a cold synoptic high pressure condition.
The municipalities of the Maule Region where classes were suspended in municipal schools and kindergartens are: Longaví, Maule, San Javier, Villa Alegre, Linares and Colbún
The suspension applies to all educational levels in municipal establishments in these communes.
Additional measures
In other municipalities, such as Talca, Curicó, Hualañé, Parral and Yerbas Buenas, flexible hours have been decreed for the entry of students to educational facilities. This measure will allow students to arrive later than usual, avoiding exposure to the coldest hours of the morning.
Authorities stress that the suspension of classes and flexible school hours are preventive measures aimed at ensuring the well-being of students, preventing them from having to deal with low temperatures and possible complications arising from the cold wave.
