Clashes during Southport demonstration in London

The demonstration “Enough is enough” (“nok er nok”) was held under the auspices of right-wing extremists who had received approval in advance.

A few hundred protesters turned out to take part in the protest at Whitehall, close to Downing Street, on Wednesday night. Eventually support protesters along with riot police. At least one person was arrested, melder Sky News.

The crowd shouted “save our children”, “stop the boats” and “Rule Britannia” as they tried to move out of the area where they had been given permission to protest, and incendiary objects were thrown in the direction of Downing Street and at a statue of Winston Churchill, writes The Independent.

A day earlier, four people were arrested during protests in Southport, where right-wing extremists threw bricks and bottles outside a mosque.

Police have said that Tuesday’s demonstration in Southport was the result of lies, disinformation and false information on social media linked to the perpetrator of Monday’s knife attack in Southport, North West England, in which several children were killed. Among other things, it was claimed that the perpetrator was an asylum seeker.

A 17-year-old boy, born in Cardiff in Wales, is in custody, suspected of murder and attempted murder, after the knife attack. Police have not named him because he is a minor.
