The Sudanese army said that it had confiscated a shipment of weapons that were on their way to the Rapid Support Units in the southeastern region of the country, while the battles between the two sides of the conflict forced the residents of the Jabra neighborhood, south of Khartoum, to leave their homes.
Yesterday, Sunday, a statement by the army stated that its forces in the 2nd Infantry Division, Gedaref, confiscated 67 sniper rifles that were on their way to the Rapid Support Forces through the Butana area in Gedaref state.
Al-Jazeera correspondent in Khartoum reported that clashes with heavy weapons took place between the army and the Rapid Support Forces in separate areas in the city of Omdurman (west of Khartoum), which led to smoke billowing from the area.
Army planes also flew over the three cities of Khartoum (Khartoum, Bahri and Omdurman), in conjunction with the rapid support ground anti-aircraft firing at the planes.
Earlier today, Monday, an army military source told Al-Jazeera that warplanes bombed Rapid Support targets in the areas of Al-Masoudia and Jiyad, south of Khartoum.
The army also accused the Rapid Support Forces of randomly bombing the Abu Adam area in Khartoum, killing a child.
On the other hand, the official account of the Rapid Support Forces on Twitter published a video clip of the leader of the Popular Movement in the North, Brigadier General Abd al-Rahman Musa al-Bishari, announcing his joining the Rapid Support Forces.
Yesterday, Sunday, the Rapid Support account published a video talking regarding the decision of the rapid support commander, Muhammad Hamdan Dagalo (Hamidti), to release a large number of police prisoners who were arrested on July 17.
Jabra neighborhood
And the French news agency quoted witnesses as saying that hundreds of residents in the Jabra neighborhood, south of Khartoum, were displaced due to the intensification of fighting between the army and the Rapid Support Forces.
A resident of the neighborhood told the same agency on condition of anonymity, “The Rapid Support Forces asked us to leave the neighborhood under the pretext that the area has become an area of operations.”
Residents of the Sahafa neighborhood adjacent to Jabra were also forced to leave due to the intensification of the fighting.
The Jabra neighborhood, which includes one of the headquarters of the Rapid Support Forces, is located near the al-Shajara area, where the armored corps is located in the army, in the vicinity of which heavy clashes are taking place between the two parties.
On the other hand, Khartoum International Airport said in a statement issued late Sunday that the Civil Aviation Authority had decided to extend the closure of airspace to all air traffic until August 15.
Humanitarian aid flights and evacuation flights are excluded from the extension of the flight ban, following obtaining a permit from the competent authorities.
This extension is the eighth that the Sudanese Aviation Authority has taken since the start of the clashes on April 15 between the army led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the Rapid Support Forces led by Hamidti.
The battles left more than 3,000 people dead, most of them civilians, and more than 2.8 million displaced people inside and outside Sudan.
