Clarification from the LPD Vienna | Vienna State Police Directorate, October 22, 2023

Vienna (OTS) Referring to the Kurier’s claims that “Vienna police blocked 24-hour protection,” the Vienna State Police Directorate makes it clear that these statements essentially do not correspond to the facts. The email allegedly available to the courier relates to a one-off object protection-related task commissioned by DSN on the evening of October 12th, 2023 due to an abstract threat situation and only on October 13th, 2023 for the following 24 hours (i.e. until October 14th, 2023, 7:00 a.m.). ) valid security measure. This was changed on the morning of October 13, 2023 to more effective measures designed to protect people at risk, in particular to protect our Jewish fellow citizens. At that time, the goal of protecting people took precedence over the permanent guarding of empty buildings. This measure was of course taken in agreement with those responsible at the DSN and the superior departments in the BMI. There can therefore be no question of “resistance” or “blockade” by the Vienna police or the state police chief in Vienna of “recommendations from the secret service”.
State police chief Dr. Gerhard Pürstl: “The Vienna police take the current challenging security situation more than seriously and are always in close coordination with those responsible for state security and intelligence and those in the Israeli religious community who are concerned with security issues. The LVT Vienna’s investigation into the unacceptable incident on Saturday morning is in full swing.”
