Clan del Golfo donates to infrastructure projects in Antioquia

In a surprising turn, the Gaitanista Self-Defense Forces of Colombia (AGC), also known as the Clan del Golfo, have announced their participation in raising funds to promote infrastructure projects in the department of Antioquia.

According to a statement circulating on social networks and that has apparently been confirmed, these self-defense groups would have made a donation of approximately $10 million to support the works of 4G routes in the region.

The initiative, which arose from a proposal by the governor of Antioquia, Andrés Julián Rendón, supported by former president Álvaro Uribe, has received an unexpected boost with the contribution of the AGC.

According to the documents attached to the statement, the aforementioned sum was transferred to support the objective of reaching a total collection of 1 billion pesos, destined for projects such as the Toyo Tunnel.

This action is presented as a response to the alleged obstacles imposed by the national government that hinder the completion of this important infrastructure work.

In one of the sections of the statement, it was expressed: “In this way we are linked to regional development, before the works become entangled in the national bureaucratic tangle, with a Central State indifferent to the needs of the regions.”

This unusual gesture has sparked controversy and debate in the country, especially given the AGC’s violent and controversial past.

The call made from Antioquia for this initiative has observers who supervise its legality, inviting citizens to actively participate in the process.

This new chapter in the history of the AGC raises questions regarding the role of non-state actors in regional development and its implications for the future of Colombia.
