A woman was found Monday evening lifeless at her home, rue Camille Lebon in Marcinelle (in the province of Hainaut), the Charleroi prosecutor’s office said on Tuesday morning. Claire, 52, died at the bottom of the stairs in the family home. Her husband was deprived of liberty. An autopsy is planned to shed light on the “very murky” circumstances of the death, said the prosecution.

The emergency services intervened Monday evening rue Camille Lebon in Marcinelle following a call from the husband of the victim. “The file has been put under investigation to shed light on the circumstances of the death, because they are very murky”commented the prosecution. “The husband is currently deprived of his liberty and could be presented to the investigating judge depending on the progress of the case. An autopsy of the victim’s body is planned.”

I saw that we were taking a body

According to the version brought by the husband, it is an accident. His wife fell down the stairs. A neighbor we met said he was surprised by the police deployment around the house. “Just before I left for work, I saw that we were taking a body”, he explains. He describes his neighbors as “a normal couple”. “We were far from imagining that things like this could happen”, he describes. It seems that this is not the first time that an ambulance has come to take care of the woman. Analyzes are underway to clarify the circumstances of this tragedy. “I hope it’s not him who did something stupid. We are surprised. It’s sad”, he reports.

Another neighbor also assures that the ambulance had already been dispatched to the couple’s home in the past. “They were both drinking a lot. Maybe there were blows? Or a fall? There were a lot of fights,” she confides.
