Senegalese civil society organizations on Friday called on the president of the African Union to get involved in resolving the crisis in Guinea Conakry.
The branch of the National Front for the Defense of the Constitution (Fndc) in Senegal and six Senegalese civil society organizations, including the “Y’en a marre” movement and the Senegalese League for Human Rights hosted a press in Dakar.
“It’s a situation that can lead to chaos and chaos in Guinea, it’s chaos in West Africa. It is time today in relation to this extremely difficult situation for the President of the AU, Macky Sall, to take his responsibilities and go to Conakry to speak to the authorities regarding the transition and tell them that the path that has been taken is not good,” said Alioune Tine, founder of the “Afrikajom Center” think tank.
“We are seriously concerned regarding the situation of deadlock, constant violence, arrests, executions also of people whose only crime is to demonstrate or express their opinion,” added Tine, who is also an expert. independent on the situation of human rights in Mali.
In the joint declaration which sanctioned the meeting, the organizations of the Senegalese civil society and the antenna of the “Fndc” decried “the unilateral conduct of the transition and the absence of clear prospects for a rapid return to constitutional order”. .
These organizations have thus demanded the opening of a framework for inclusive and sincere dialogue to achieve the adoption of a consensual and realistic electoral timetable as well as respect for individual and collective freedoms by lifting the ban on demonstrations.
They urged the National Committee for Recovery and Development (Cnrd) to respect the initial commitments of September 05, 2021 and the release of the leaders of the “Fndc” and political detainees during peaceful demonstrations.
“It is also an opportunity to draw the attention of the international community to the risks of social and political instability that Guinea runs”, they noted, urging ECOWAS to become more involved “to find solutions in time to resolve the Guinean crisis”.
The Cnrd took power on September 5, 2021 by force and adopted a transition in 36 months.
The Fndc set up in 2019 to fight once morest the 3rd term of President Alpha Condé resumed its street demonstrations to demand from the military junta in power a rapid return to constitutional order. He called for further protests on August 29 and September 5.
No less than seven dead and several injured as well as a series of arrests were noted during the said demonstrations of the movement which does not recognize its dissolution pronounced on August 6 by the Guinean authorities.
