On Friday April 14, 2023, the High Court of Niamey delivered its verdict in the case between civil society actor Abdoulaye Seydou and the State of Niger.
Nine (09) months in prison and a fine of one million CFA francs, such was the sentence pronounced by the court once morest Abdoulaye Seydou, coordinator of the M62 movement and president of the Pan-African Network for Peace, Democracy and Development (REPPAD). Abdoulaye Seydou is thus sentenced for “dissemination of data likely to disturb public order”.
A condemnation that Amnesty International regrets, which calls for the “unconditional release” of the civil society actor. “We call on the authorities in Niger to stop the harassment and intimidation once morest human rights defenders,” Amnesty International’s regional director for West and Central Africa, Samira Daoud, said on Friday.
