A nationwide civil protection test alarm will be carried out once more on Saturday. Between 12:00 p.m. and 12:45 p.m., following the “siren test” signal, the three civil defense signals “warning”, “alarm” and “all clear” are sent out over 8,300 fire brigade sirens throughout Austria. The annual test of the signal tones serves to check the technical equipment of the warning and alarm system and is intended to familiarize the population with the signals.
During the test alarm, the Austrian disaster warning app KATWARN will also be tested. According to the Ministry of the Interior, 8,276 of 8,328 sirens worked perfectly in the test a year ago, or 99.38 percent. The signals: “siren test” (15 seconds), “warning” (three minutes of constant tone), “alarm” (one minute rising and falling howling tone), “all clear” (one minute of constant tone).
