Civil forces headed by Hamdok present a vision for ending the war in Sudan

Sudan – The Coordination of Democratic Civil Forces (Taqaddum) warned of the fragmentation, division, and complete disappearance of the Sudanese state if the war continues in the country, and announced the presentation of a vision to end this war.

This came in a final statement issued yesterday, Friday, by the coordination led by former Sudanese Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok, following meetings of its leadership body in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.

The statement said, “We are only a few days away from the April 15 War completing its first year, a war that has not and will not bring anything but devastation, division and destruction to our country.”

He stated that the war led to the deaths of tens of thousands of civilians and soldiers, displaced millions of them, destroyed infrastructure and military capabilities, and tore apart the social fabric.

The statement added, “The specter of famine is now rearing its head, threatening millions of Sudanese from hunger.”

The statement warned that with every passing day the country is approaching the point of no return, as the proliferation of militias, the spread of weapons, sharp social divisions, and negative foreign interventions will fragment the entity of the state and create the collapse and complete disappearance of Sudan.

The coordination meeting concluded with decisions and recommendations that include its vision for ending the war and rebuilding the Sudanese state.

The statement stated that among the recommendations is to put pressure on the warring parties to secure and open paths (roads) to deliver humanitarian aid and provide protection for humanitarian aid workers.

The statement affirmed support for all persistent efforts seeking to reach a cessation of hostilities, to be followed by a comprehensive ceasefire that leads to ending the war and establishing peace, in conjunction with the start of a political process that leads to a comprehensive political solution.

Since mid-April 2023, the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces have been fighting a war that has left regarding 13,900 people dead and more than 8 million displaced and refugees, according to the United Nations.

The “progress” vision to resolve the Sudanese crisis comes in conjunction with the Sudanese prosecution’s announcement of filing complaints once morest 17 of the coordination leaders, led by Abdullah Hamdok.

On Wednesday, local media reported that the Public Prosecution filed lawsuits once morest the leaders of Taqadum, which included provoking war once morest the state and undermining the constitutional system. These lawsuits are punishable by death.

The Coordination of Democratic Civil Forces (Taqaddam) includes parties and civil organizations that were formed following the outbreak of the war.

On January 2, the coordination with the Rapid Support Forces signed a joint political declaration that included understandings, including the formation of a joint committee to end the war.

On the 8th of the same month, the coordination said that it had addressed the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces to hold a direct meeting for negotiations, with an international presence.
