The Minister of Communications announced this Friday, February 23, that legal actions are underway once morest the company that signed the contract to supply the airport stands.
Jazmín de la Vega, head of the portfolio, said that the corresponding actions will be presented, endorsed by the Attorney General’s Office (PGN), due to non-compliance with the contract in terms of specifications.
The official said that the performance bond will be executed and a solution will be sought to renovate the airport terminal.
In addition, it was reported that the airport management will temporarily take measures to manage passenger traffic, both inbound and outbound.
The minister assured that all pertinent legal actions will be carried out in this case and in other similar cases, where the agreement was not received as requested.
Likewise, the CIV authorities are following up on another retrofit contract on the landing strip that connects to the airport’s private hangars, valued at Q107 million.
This Friday, de la Vega said that the company completed the maintenance of 600 meters, leaving another 250 meters pending, which the company agrees to deliver in a month and a half.
La Aurora Airport Management confirmed that other contracts related to cleaning and cracks on the runways are being analyzed.
De la Vega estimates that there are 1,430 active contracts in total that are under review.
Recently, the Ministry of Communications, Infrastructure and Housing (CIV), in collaboration with the Attorney General’s Office (PGN) and the Anti-Corruption Commission, established a technical table to analyze legal actions in the event of possible signs of corruption.
“We are analyzing a series of contracts in which we will be taking legal actions in the future, given that they affect the interests of the State,” explained de la Vega, last Thursday, February 22, when the working group was announced.
Another of the contracts under analysis is the intervention on the Palín Escuintla highway, where a company was hired to carry out maintenance work, even though the highway was still under a Marhnos concession and had not been officially transferred to the ministry.
