[Now News Channel]Hong Kong’s first hydrogen bus has started road testing and is on trial route 20. Citybus is expected to officially start running within a month.
Hong Kong’s first hydrogen bus, following testing and training for drivers, hydrogen refueling station staff, etc., left the depot for the first time for road testing without carrying passengers.
During the power generation process, hydrogen does not produce other waste gases, only water is discharged. Hydrogen buses are trialling Route 20, which runs from Hoi Tat Estate in Cheung Sha Wan to Mu On Street in Kai Tak, passing through Sham Shui Po, Mong Kok and Kowloon City, with a total length of regarding 12 kilometers.
Citybus stated that it has conducted a 200-kilometer driving test at the depot in accordance with government requirements, and has also used hydrogen refueling stations for multiple hydrogen refuelings.
Citybus General Manager (Engineering) So Kwok-kin: “You can see that the depot is relatively empty during the test run. We are doing a test drive here, but when we go out on the real road, we have traffic lights, bus stops, other groups using the road, and other cars. , pedestrians, or traffic congestion. Testing on the road allows us to master more engineering or operational data.”
Citybus also stated that it has hired a third-party agency to conduct a quantitative risk assessment for the routes traveled by hydrogen buses.
The first hydrogen bus is expected to be officially launched within a month and will run on Route 20. However, since hydrogen buses cannot pass through tunnels, they will only run in Kowloon in the short term.
The company stated that it will carry out a parallel plan on Hong Kong Island this year, that is, diesel, electric and hydrogen buses will run on the same route for comparison, to help determine the proportion of electric and hydrogen buses in future large-scale procurement, and hopes to have 2045 buses. Convert all buses to new energy buses.
