‘City-wiping’ asteroid about to hit Earth? – World

Thousands of giant rocks and pieces of planets are swirling in space. Some of these fragments sometimes come very close to the Earth and pass by. What if a large space rock hits Earth? It has happened. Experts believe that millions of years ago, a huge space rock (asteroid) hit the earth, resulting in the extinction of the dinosaurs.

Epophis is as big as the US Empire State Building. It exists as a major threat to Earth. Experts say that this space rock will come close to Earth in 2029. Scientists are making all kinds of preparations in this regard. It can also be destroyed if it comes too close to Earth and threatens to collide.

Epophis is called Asteroid 99942 in astronomical terms. This space rock is 1,200 feet wide, making it larger than 90 percent of space rocks. This space rock orbits the Sun every 324 days and passes close to Earth once a decade. Experts also call it city killer, which means destroying the city.

Epophis was discovered in 2004. Given the possibility of a collision with Earth, he was named after the Egyptian god of destruction and chaos. Experts say that the probability of this space rock hitting the Earth is 2.7%.
