From October 18, 2022, the health department will be offering flu and pneumococcal vaccinations every Tuesday (except public holidays) from 8.30 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the meeting room (Gewerkschaftsplatz 2).
ST. POLTEN. While common colds (flu-like infections) heal following a few days without any lasting effects, complications and permanent organ damage can occur with the “real” flu (influenza) and typical bacterial pneumonia (pneumococcal pneumonia), such as heart muscle and pleurisy, adhesions in of the lungs, circulatory collapse, as well as inflammation of the middle ear and meninges. In very old, debilitated and bedridden people, these infections can also be fatal.
Vaccination can protect
In the current vaccination campaign of the health department, vaccinations are only carried out for influenza and pneumococci (while stocks last).
Influenza (viral flu), adult vaccination: Influenza vaccination is recommended for all adults. It is primarily recommended for people over the age of 60, the chronically ill, groups of people with other risk factors as well as health care workers and geriatric care workers. But healthy people also benefit from the flu vaccination and can thus protect their relatives from infection.
Annual immunizations are required for influenza vaccination (the vaccine must be continuously adapted to new virus strains). The current 4-fold vaccine Vaxigrip Tetra is vaccinated.
Pneumococci, adult vaccination: Vaccination (Prevenar 13 and following ≥ 1 year 1x Pneumovax23) is recommended from the age of 60.
Vaccination is not recommended for healthy adults under the age of 60. If there are circumstances that may increase the risk of severe pneumococcal disease, such as Smoking, alcohol abuse, hypertension, atherosclerosis, subchronic bronchitis, etc. vaccination (Prevenar 13 and following ≥ 1 year 1x Pneumovax23) is recommended from the age of 51.
No pre-registration necessary
The vaccination campaign of the health department in the hall of encounter runs as long as the vaccine is available. It is not necessary to register in advance, but there may be different waiting times for the individual appointments. Bring the vaccination card with you for vaccination, wear an FFP2 mask on site and keep your distance. Reasons for exclusion from vaccinations are acute febrile illnesses and severe symptoms of intolerance to other vaccinations. The vaccinations are carried out by the resident doctors and the health department of the city of St. Pölten.
