Registration for the City of Saguenay’s day camps opened Thursday morning at 10 a.m., and traffic on the City’s website was lower than last year.
Of the 590 places are available, in 2022, they had all found takers in the space of a few minutes. The day camps will begin on June 26 and end on August 11.
This year, two hours following the opening of the registration period, certain age groups were only filled to 30% of their capacity.
“We know that we should fill all our places before the deadline of May 5”, gave to hear the spokesperson for the City of Saguenay Dominic Arseneau.
The unlucky are still invited to leave their name on the waiting list.
“There are sometimes cancellations, families whose vacation plan has changed,” said Mr. Arseneau. “So if you’re on the list, you’re more likely to be called up.”
“Usually, every week, we fill 85% of our places,” he added. “These are parents who have gone outside during these weeks, but even at 85%, it’s one or two places per group.”
Saguenay holds four day camps on its territory and, for the first time, it is trying the experience of welcoming children aged 11 and 12.
“It is a request that we had, affirmed the spokesperson of the City. We will see if we can form a group for them, and if not, we will integrate them with the other children by notifying the parents before doing so.
The 74 monitor and supervisor positions have all been filled, which makes it possible to respect a ratio of 10 children per monitor.
