The City published this week a first call for tenders for the installation of 70 off-street charging stations which will be installed in several locations in its various boroughs (a preliminary list of the locations considered can be consulted below).
In an email exchange with Le Soleil, a city spokesperson, Jean-Pascal Lavoie, specifies that these 70 terminals will be equipped with two connectors (for a total of 140 connectors). A second call for proposals will be published soon with a view to installing 30 additional double terminals (60 connectors), adds Mr. Lavoie.
“We plan to put all these terminals into service in the fall of 2024”, advances the spokesperson for the City, specifying that the timetable will be confirmed following the calls for tenders.
The purchase and installation of these 100 new level 2 charging stations (240 volts) represents, on a preliminary basis, an investment totaling $4.25 million, 100% funded by the Ministère de l’Environnement, de la Lutte contre les Climate Change, Wildlife and Parks as part of a contribution to the City of Quebec for the implementation of its Climate Transition and Action Plan.
Currently, the City of Quebec owns and provides citizens with some 24 level 2 charging stations in various municipal parking lots. These terminals, which have only one connector, were acquired and installed between 2015 and 2022 at an average cost of $10,000 per connector and were entirely financed by the City ($250,000), details Mr. Lavoie.
The City is also co-owner with Hydro-Québec of a 400V (level 3) direct current fast-charging public station (DCFC) of the Electric Circuit. The purchase and installation of this equipment in the Pointe-aux-Lièvres park parking lot required an investment of $87,400 in 2016, co-financed by the City ($59,000) and by Hydro-Québec ($28,400 ), specifies the spokesperson of the City.
The latter is also currently installing 20 on-street charging stations for an amount of $1.3 million. According to Jean-Pascal Lavoie, these terminals, for which the City received a $480,000 grant from Hydro-Québec, should be commissioned in the fall of 2023.
