City of Jackson deprived of drinking water after decades of poor maintenance

Heavy rains battered central Mississippi State throughout August. These recurring bad weather ended up causing a failure in the water treatment pumps in Jackson, capital of this state in the southern United States. Since Tuesday August 30, the 150,000 inhabitants of the city have been deprived of drinking water.

Jackson “cannot produce enough water to fight fires, flush toilets and meet other basic needs”, said Governor Tate Reeves (Republican Party), quoted by the daily USA Today. The low pressure in the pipes, or even the absence of pressure, prevents some residents from washing or even brushing their teeth.
