At around 1:30 p.m. on the 1st, a section of a city-managed sidewalk collapsed in Nishikocho, Izumiotsu City, Osaka, and two women who were walking fell into a drainage ditch two meters below.

According to the city and fire department, two people were injured and taken to the hospital, one with a suspected broken leg, and the other with minor injuries.

Two men who were nearby and tried to help also fell into the waterway.

The site was a community road with concrete slabs measuring over 1 meter long, 2 meters wide, and 10 cm thick laid over a drainage canal, and three of the concrete slabs suddenly collapsed.

At the time, the “test pulling” for the Danjiri festival scheduled for this weekend was being held, and the two women who fell were passing by to see the Danjiri.

A man in his 70s who lives in the neighborhood said, “I was surprised because I drive this road often.I want the city to take this opportunity to take thorough safety measures.”

According to the city, the concrete that collapsed was installed regarding 40 years ago and had not been inspected until now.

Izumiotsu City has decided to close approximately 20 roads of the same shape within the city and carry out urgent inspections.
