City funding for the independent Munich dance and theater scene – muenchen.de

The city of Munich will continue to support the independent Munich dance and theater scene in 2025 and will provide funding totaling around 3 million euros. Over 50 projects are supported. The largest share goes to 15 individual project funding, including nine theater productions and six dance projects. In addition, four debut grants will be awarded in the field of dance and five in the field of theater as well as 15 work and further training scholarships in the field of dance and theater. Three-year funding was provided for eight independent stages and three dance and theater artists each, and three funding each in the areas of theater and dance was also recommended for three years, regardless of production.
The City Council’s Culture Committee decided on the award at its most recent meeting. A total of 200 applications were received. Three expert juries, together with jury members nominated by the city council factions, developed lists of suggestions in several meetings.

Art and culture make an important contribution to bringing socially relevant topics into urban society in different ways and encouraging dialogue, reflection and openness to a diverse living community. As a cultural advisor, I am committed to ensuring that Munich’s high artistic level can continue to be maintained and expanded.”
In the area Theater Ten individual projects for independent theater professionals include “Protect yourself” by Caner Akdeniz, “Human Stories, Machine Stories” (AT) by Nihan Devecioğlu, “The Dispensable” by Sabine Herberg and Jochen Strodthoff GbR, “The Disappearance” by Ruth Geiersberger, “Wedding! Wedding?” by Theresa Hanich, “Looping Trees” (AT) by Christiane Huber, “The Trojan War” by Kastner – Delphine GbR, “Teutonistan” by Karnik Gregorian and Bülent Kullukcu, “Sister” (AT) by Lulu Obermayer and ” Crowd Control” by Oliver Zahn was sufficient.
Benno Heisel, Caroline Kapp and Christiane Mudra receive three-year option funding.
One production-independent funding for independent theater professionals from 2025 to 2027 will go to Büro Grandezza, Evelyn Hriberšek and the Munich Theater Copywriters Network.
Debut funding in the field of theater was awarded to Paul Friedrich Silvan Furtwängler, Sascha Hoffmann, Anna Gesa Raija Lappe, Cornelia Maschner and Thalia Schoeller.
Michael Heiduk, Keith King Mpunga, Julia Prechsl, Olivia Rosendorfer, Anastasiya Shtemenko, Jan Struckmeier and Oliver Zahn will receive work and training scholarships in the field of theater of 8,000 euros each. In the area dance received Alina Belyagina for “Please speak and describe your experiences as they come to you”, Bruch GbR for “Spirit Plastic”, Leonard Engel for “Carcasse”, Lena Grossmann for “What do you need to see? – On being watched”, Micha Purucker for “habermas-disco” and Rykena/Jüngst GbR for “STRIPPING BOLERO” a funding for individual projects.
Anna Konjetzky, Ceren Oran and Moritz Ostruschnjak will receive optional funding for freelance dance creators from 2025 to 2027.
Sandra Chatterjee, Playground GbR and Rykena/Jüngst GbR receive production-independent funding for freelance dance creators from 2025 to 2027.
Chris Pascal Braun, Kathrin Knöpfle, Nicola Kötterl and Hannah Kriesmair received debut funding in the field of dance. Matteo Carvone, Christina d’Alberto, Diego Tortelli and Miria Wurm GbR, Sahra Huby, Judith Hummel, Jasmine Ellis Projects gUG, Jin Lee and Quindell Orton will receive work and training scholarships in the field of dance of 8,000 euros each.
