Vienna (OTS) As part of the European City Conference “City Employer” on April 26 and 27, 2023, the City of Vienna and its partners from numerous European and Austrian cities analyzed the opportunities and current challenges for city administrations in the field of human resources. City administrations are also affected by the demographic developments on the labor market and the far-reaching changes in the world of work and have to strive for the best minds and reliable employees in global competition. Because one thing is clear: well-functioning city administrations with their diverse tasks are essential for the daily supply and the quality of life of the citizens. At the conference, the participants exchanged ideas across national and city borders, presented best practice examples from the respective cities and thus benefited from the experiences and ideas of their international colleagues.

International exchange in times of global challenges

At the opening of the conference, KR Peter Hanke, Executive City Councilor for Finance, Economics, Labour, International Affairs and Wiener Stadtwerke, emphasized the importance of close cooperation and constant know-how transfer between European cities and regions, in view of the enormous changes – from demographic to technological change – and the political conflicts on our continent.

In the panels that followed, experts gave an overview of current developments on the labor market, in which city administrations have to assert themselves alongside numerous other companies, as well as the expectations and career plans of employees. The advantages of city administrations as an employer, such as the opportunity for lifelong, varied careers in different areas, flexible working time models, a secure job, international internships and meaningful work were emphasized, as were the diverse forms of modern work organization that city administrations use to attract interested applicants*. can score inside.
