City Courses and Testing for Automated and Connected Vehicles at Lausitzring: Dekra’s Innovations in Traffic Simulation and Safety

2023-06-27 07:00:00

Dekra has completed city courses at the Lausitzring for testing automated and connected vehicles. Variable-use asphalt surfaces were installed on around 80,000 square meters of the previous parking areas for spectators. The system includes lanes, large areas, intersection areas and much more. Among other things, around 300 meters of tram tracks were laid.

With flexible markings, mobile infrastructure and the possibility of simulated peripheral development, a wide variety of scenarios for intra- and sometimes inter-local traffic can be simulated. In so-called swarm tests, up to twelve moving objects should be used in the vicinity of the test vehicle. They can represent a wide variety of other vehicles, but also pedestrians, and can be controlled with centimeter precision.

The layout of the city courses in Klettwitz, Brandenburg, was planned in a joint working group with vehicle manufacturers, suppliers and research institutions under the leadership of the Fraunhofer Institute for Transport and Infrastructure Systems in Dresden. The basis was the evaluation of inner and suburban accidents in Germany from 2013 to 2019.

Five years following taking over the Lausitzring, the German Motor Vehicle Monitoring Association has completed the scope of expansion announced at the time. The establishment of our own test center for automobile and stationary battery systems is already being planned. It is expected to be fully operational by the end of next year. (awm)
