In the current European Citroen C4 family, the electric version was laid down from the very beginning and entered the market simultaneously with petrol and diesel modifications. Now the Citroen e-C4 hatchback and the Citroen e-C4 X sedan are offered on the market, but they still didn’t have a choice in terms of power and range.
Now he is! The C4 family got new-generation components and assemblies that are already used on the Stellantis group’s platform models. The place of the Continental engine (136 hp, 260 Nm) was taken by its own synchronous electric motor, created by Emotors (a joint venture between Stellantis and the Japanese company Nidec). It produces 156 hp. and 260 Nm, but at the same time has a reduced power consumption.
A more powerful motor relies on another battery. The supplier has not changed (this is the Chinese company CATL), but the 400-volt battery is now more densely packed, and the share of expensive nickel in the cathode has been reduced from 80% to 60%. The capacity increased from 50 to 54 kWh, and as a result, the mileage per charge increased from 360 km to 420 km on the WLTP cycle. The chargers are retained: the basic single-phase charger is rated at 7.4 kW, the optional three-phase charger is rated at 11 kW, and the DC device is rated at 100 kW.
If the related SUVs DS 3 E-Tense or Opel Mokka Electric completely switched to new electrical components, then in the Citroen C4 family the option with the old power plant was not only preserved, but remained the main one. Live, Feel, Feel Pack and C-series EVs continue to feature 136 hp. and a 50-kilowatt battery, and for the top version of Shine, a choice of two electrical installations is offered. Surcharge for a more powerful and long-range variant – only 1000 euros. But given the rich equipment, the price turned out to be rather big: in France, a Citroen e-C4 with a new engine and an increased battery costs 44,600 euros.
