Citizens’ Association of Itaewon Disaster “Dismiss Minister Lee Sang-min of the Ministry of Public Administration and Security”

  • The Citizens’ Countermeasures Meeting for the October 29 Itaewon Disaster (hereafter referred to as the Citizens’ Countermeasures Meeting) demanded that President Yoon Seok-yeol remove Lee Sang-min from the National Assembly yesterday (11th) after the proposal to dismiss Minister Lee Sang-min was passed.

In a statement, the Citizens’ Countermeasures Committee called for this, saying, “Minister Lee should be held responsible for the disaster and should be removed, and he should be investigated urgently to cover legal responsibility.”

They also criticized the fact that members of the People’s Power left in opposition to the proposal for dismissal, and that members of the Special Committee on State Affairs belonging to this party expressed their intention to resign.

The citizens’ countermeasure meeting said, “The power of the people is to immediately stop the fearless behavior of holding the ankle of a fact-finding without sanctuary and accountability and driving a nail into the hearts of the bereaved families and victims once again.”

The Citizens’ Countermeasures Meeting is a meeting created by 174 civic groups, including the People’s Solidarity for Participatory Democracy and Citizens’ Coalition for Democratic Media, with the goal of finding out the truth about the 10.29 disaster and supporting victims.
