Citizen consultation days are called on Lake Ypacaraí Sanitation Program

Asuncion, IP Agency.- The Ministry of Public Works and Communications, through the Directorate of Drinking Water and Sanitation, is calling for a series of citizen consultation sessions on the Ypacaraí Lake Basin Sanitation Program, financed by a USD 154 million loan from the IDB-Clima.

Authorities will carry out a so-called “Significant Consultation” with residents of the main cities in the river basin, in order to inform the population about the ambitious project and incorporate their input into its design and implementation.

The aforementioned Program, financed by the Inter-American Development Bank with a 30-year horizon, seeks to improve environmental and health conditions throughout the lake basin, promoting development that is resilient to climate change and low in carbon emissions. It also aims to facilitate access to green markets for financing the water and sanitation sector.

The planned interventions are based on the 2019 Comprehensive Sanitation Plan and the recent Circular Economy Action Plan for Lake Ypacaraí, with a view to progressively recovering the quality of the waters of this emblematic natural heritage of all Paraguayans and ensuring decent sanitary conditions for the inhabitants of the area.

According to the meeting schedule, on Monday, August 5 at 2:00 p.m., at the Itauguá Sanitation Board and on Tuesday, August 6, at the same time, at the Capiatá Sanitation Board.

The meeting will continue on Wednesday, August 7, at 5:00 p.m., at the Domingo Martínez de Irala Basic School No. 86, in Areguá, and on Thursday, August 8, at 9:00 a.m., in the Ministry’s Assembly Hall. of Public Works, 3rd floor, in Asunción

The MOPC, through the Directorate of Drinking Water and Sanitation, as the executing agency, urges citizens to participate in this call and to actively participate in these spaces for dialogue for the collective construction of sustainable development in the Ypacaraí basin.
