Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Activists on social media circulated statements regarding Saudi Arabia by Mike Pompeo, the former US Secretary of State in the Donald Trump administration, and Adel Al-Jubeir, the Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
“We have the ability to help ourselves here in the United States of America, to develop not only what Saudi Arabia and Adel al-Jubeir have said regarding oil refineries, we have also shut down a pipeline and made permitting difficult,” Pompeo said in the circulating statements regarding an interview he gave on Fox Channel.
Pompeo continued: “Accusing other people, OPEC or Saudi Arabia, is a huge mistake when the United States has the ability to be self-sufficient in energy, and frankly, providing energy to the world as well. This is regarding putting the American citizen first.”
He added, “Putting the American citizen first means a strong and deep security relationship with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as we have done for decades. We did this during the Trump administration, and (Saudi Arabia) was an important security partner and it must remain so.”
