Cities Skylines 2 indefinitely delays its console version

When Cities Skylines 2 arrived in October 2023, its developer Colossal Order and its publisher Paradox Interactive promised that the sequel to the legendary city-building simulation game would also be coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X alongside the PC version.

However, the console release was first delayed until spring 2024 and more recently until October of this year. Now, in an update on publisher Paradox Interactive’s forums today, a new and now indefinite delay was confirmed.

“Unfortunately, we have not yet met the stability and performance goals we set for the console release. Without a Release Candidate (RC), we are now unable to meet the October release window,” said Paradox.

“While we are making slow but steady progress, there are still unresolved issues that impact gameplay in ways that detract from the player experience we want to deliver.”

“We expect to receive a new RC, which will undergo a thorough review in August. This evaluation will determine whether we can begin the submission process and provide a concrete release date, or whether further issues need to be addressed.”

“We understand that this is disappointing and not what we expected either. However, we are committed to keeping you informed throughout this development process, even if the updates are not always what we want.”

Cities Skylines 2 has had constant controversies

When the title arrived on PC last October, fans of the simulation game were met with a lackluster game, performance issues, constant bugs and a lack of content, causing mixed reviews from the specialized press and users.

In April, Paradox announced that customers who purchased the first Cities Skylines 2 DLC would receive a refund and that the content would be added to the base game for free following being “hastily abandoned” in an unsatisfactory state.

Now, with the console version delayed, future paid DLC will also be delayed.

This adds to the bad streak of Paradox Interactive following the closure of the Tectonic studiowho were developing the previously announced Sims rival, Life by You.
