An additional option is available to people with flu-like and gastrointestinal symptoms. In fact, the Integrated Health and Social Services Center (CISSS) of the Laurentides announces the opening of winter clinics in the territory.
This results in an enhanced service offering within the various family medicine groups (GMF) and certain pediatric clinics in the region. The objective? Respond to the increase in emergency room consultations during winter caused by an increase in the circulation of certain respiratory viruses and gastroenteritis.
Accessible until March 31, 2024, the winter clinics are aimed at both children and adults who present with flu-like and/or gastrointestinal symptoms.
By dialing 811, option 1, users have access to advice on the measures to take or on monitoring the evolution of their state of health. They are also directed to an appropriate resource in the community (e.g.: pharmacies, health establishment, etc.) and, when required, a consultation with a specialized nurse practitioner (NP) or a doctor in a medical clinic can be be proposed.
This service is offered to customers registered or not with a family doctor. However, people with a family doctor are invited to first refer to their clinic.
Please note that the 811 line is accessible seven days a week, 24 hours a day.
The President and CEO of the CISSS des Laurentides, Julie Delaney, says she is happy to be able to count on this additional resource during this period of high traffic in the emergency room.
“I would like to thank the health professionals, the Info-Santé teams and the community stakeholders who, together, participate in the smooth running of these winter clinics. You all help to ensure quality care and services to the population this holiday season,” she emphasizes.
