The management of the CISSS Lanaudière reacts to recent information published in the Journal de Montréal according to which one in 10 surgeries is canceled every day despite the millions granted by Quebec to extend the opening hours of operating theaters beyond 4 p.m.
In a correspondence that the CISSS sent to us, it is stated that there are always one or two shifts scheduled to go beyond 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. and in addition to these shifts, there is staff volunteering.
The notion of funding for blitzes is not linked to these one-off unforeseen overruns and these amounts cannot be used to offer special conditions to operating theater staff.
Blitzes are always planned with dedicated staff and these blitzes start following 4 p.m. exclusively for patients waiting for more than 1 year.
According to the latest data from the Ministry of Health Dashboard, 1,947 people have been waiting for surgery for more than a year in the region.
